If you’re not a food producer or merchant, you may not have heard of the Good Foundation. But if you care about what goes into your body, and how what you’re eating affects the world you live in, you may want to be in the loop. They’ve been doing some pretty amazing work for not only our food supply and the planet, but for merchants and producers that honor both aspects in their work. They’ve been doing this since 2008, starting as a pretty incredible project, Slow Food Nation, North America’s largest ever sustainable food event. This eventually grew into The Good Food Awards, made to encourage, grow, and honor the best sustainable food producers from over 2,000 entries. In collaboration with the industry’s, and world’s, top leaders in this field, the Foundation grew to encompass the Good Food Guild, Good Food Merchants Alliance, Good Food Mercantile, and the Good Food Fund.

The Good Food Awards bases its nominations and awards on extremely rigorous standards in each category of not only outstanding taste, but sustainability requirements regarding ingredient sourcing from sound agricultural practices, and the environmental practices of the food producers. Finalists and award winners must be crafting food that is good for consumer and planet, without use of harmful chemicals, pesticides, or herbicides, along with favoring other practices that focus on building soil health along generations. To be nominated means that each finalist has gone through a thorough vetting process to ensure the producers uphold each standard to the utmost. The final products also have to be simply good enough to stand out in a blind tasting.

Being recognized by such a stellar group with such stringent vetting, with such a respected nomination, is extremely big news to us, and to the Hudson Valley - as we were one of the select few producers from this region to be honored.

The Good Food Awards had to taste and vet nearly 2,000 products this year, so after we got the news, and after we stopped screaming like schoolgirls on a rollercoaster, we started to wonder – probably because we’re charming and humble – what made us stick out?

If you’ve never had Seek Immunity, we think you should probably fix that, but maybe we can be of some assistance since we just recently thought about this. It’s a unique blend in the world of kombucha, neither spicy nor relying completely on sweetness nor juice flavor for the taste. It’s a pineapple and elderflower blend, and while you may be tempted to envision something wholly sweet, floral, and tropical, that’s not the case with this.

You’re greeted by the smell of honey-floral, sweet pineapple with undertones of a sweet-sour kombucha culture as soon as you crack open the bottle, sure, but what you taste does some fancy footwork. Your taste buds are indeed initially greeted with that beloved floral-sweet pineapple taste you’ve come to expect when you see that word, but we took the floral aspect, and turned it on its head.

Elderflower’s taste is actually very reminiscent of a hops flower. So, just as your brain is about to expect a sweeter, honeyed floral, your mouth does a total 180 and registers a slightly bitter taste that oddly feels perfect. The whole fireworks show on your palate, complete with a sparkly kombucha fizz, ultimately pulls off a taste that ends up like the sweetest, softest beer you’ve ever tasted, or a hard cider that was brought from some mysterious, far away tropic. But remember, folks, we’re alcohol free too.

We’re not only proud of the flavorful wizardry we pulled off in Seek Immunity, we’re very proud of the work we do to sustain what we make, as well as the partnerships and consciousness that Seek North creates about how it’s made while we make it.

We’re also extremely proud the Good Food Awards have recognized us and the work we do, and we very much would like to thank them not only for this, but all the work they’ve done in growing a movement we believe in too.
